Packing Light for a Two-Week Trip

Packing Light for a Two-Week Trip

Packing light for two weeks feels harder than it should, mostly because of a mental block: two weeks doesn't need two weeks of clothes if laundry is available anywhere along the way, which it almost always is.

Plan for a Wash, Not for Every Day

A rough rule - packing for about one week and planning a laundry stop midway - cuts volume dramatically without leaving you short on options. Most accommodations, even budget ones, have some laundry access nearby.

Build Around a Color Scheme

Choosing 2-3 colors that all mix and match multiplies the number of outfits a small bag can produce, compared to packing items that only pair with one or two other pieces.

  • Layer instead of duplicate: One warm layer works across several outer combinations rather than packing multiple warm items.
  • Wear the bulkiest items while traveling: Boots and heavy jackets take up disproportionate space in a bag but almost none on your body.
  • Leave room on purpose: A completely full bag leaving has nowhere to put anything acquired along the way.

The goal isn't packing the absolute minimum - it's packing enough that you're not doing laundry constantly, without carrying two weeks of clothing you'll wear once each.
